CAMRA POTTERIES BRANCH
The Holy Inadequate opened on 11th March 2011 under the management of Paul and Sarah Cope, who are no strangers to the real ale drinkers of the city. Since then, the pub has achieved so much and Paul states that much of this is down to Jason Barlow, another familiar face in the Potteries for his extensive knowledge of beers.
When I visited to do this article (one of many visits), they had been open just less than 6 months but had already had 170 beers on. One of the Joules beers is permanent as well as 4 rotating guests which including a stout and a cider. By January it is anticipated that there will be 8 hand pumps available and a micro-brewery will be in the early stages on the premises. Freedom Lager, which is brewed in Abbotts Bromley will be making an appearance in the near future and November saw the start of the oatcake shop on the premises.
The artwork on the walls is outstanding, and the whole place has a warm and homely feel. Live entertainment is a regular feature as are beer festivals. I can't miss out the bar staff who look after their customers and are very knowledgeable. On several visits I have been updated when another stout has been put on and a sample has been brought across to me. And of course I can't not mention Jason's jokes!
A fantastic and well-deserved choice for the Pub of the Month Award. Well done to everybody at The Holy Inadequate. The presentation will be held on 5th January at 9.30pm, immediately following the Good Beer Guide Selection Meeting.
