CAMRA POTTERIES BRANCH
The Potteries CAMRA top pub for June 2011 is The Top Pub at Hill Top, Brown Edge, ST6 8TX, lying about three quarters of a mile from the village, on a hill, and set on the edge of the Staffordshire Moorlands. The pub was built in 1840 and was known as The Rose and Crown until it re-opened under its new guise in summer 2010, comprising of one spacious, single room. Pub Historians can still see it under its old name by going onto Google Maps.
Now run by Matt and "'arry", there is no TV or juke box, just good conversation and you will be assured of a warm welcome. A pleasant beer garden is outside, perfect for the warmer weather.
Good food is served all week from 12 noon until 8.30pm, and this is a good area for walking, with Knypersley Pool lying just down the road. Five real ales are served, with the three regular beers coming from Titanic Brewery of Burslem and the two guest ales hailing from micro breweries up and down the country.
Well-behaved dogs are very; indeed, you can meet the two lively
pub dogs, Beezer and Frazer within the very walls of the pub.
The Pub of the Month presentation will take place at 4pm on Saturday, 4th June; a bus runs every half hour from Hanley bus station, to Brown Edge, the 8B departing on the hour and dropping off by the school, from which it is a fifteen minute walk up the bank and around the corner, or the 8B leaving on the half hour, dropping off by the Holly Bush pub, from which it is a ten minute walk up the bank. So why not join us and experience this wonderful pub?
