PUB OF THE MONTH

OCTOBER 2010 - TERRACE, SHELTON

TerraceThis pub can be found at 185 Leek Road, ST4 2BW, in the heart of student land, directly across from Staffs University; however, you don't need to be a student to feel welcome there. On my visit there were people of all ages enjoying a quiet pint whilst reading the paper or catching up with friends. Everybody was made welcome.

As I walked into the bar I was pleased to see that there were two real ales and two ciders. On speaking to Martyn the licensee, Gray's England Pride is a permanent feature along with a guest beer (at the time of my visit it was a Lymestone beer) Old Rosie Cider is also a regular and is usually accompanied by Westons Country Perry, however they have the limited edition Westons Cider Twist Raspberry in its place on my visit.

It's a pleasant pub which has something for everybody. There is a pool table to the rear and bar seating to the right, and to the left, there are comfortable settees for you to relax on. The décor is interesting, mixing modern art (especially depicting the pottery industry) with a more rustic style. The beer garden is an interesting use of space, split into three areas, the last being a gazebo with garden settees to relax in.

October is traditionally Apple month, however for the Terrace it is a double celebration of winning the Pub of the Month as well as first anniversary of the licensee's arrival at the pub. The Pub of the Month presentation will take place on Tuesday 5th October at 7.30 pm.
